Recipe: Bread Delight (Baked Bread Wada)

Summary: A snack made of bread and mixed vegetables. It is a healthy snack as it is baked and very tasty too. The kids just love it.

IngredientsBread Delight

  • Bread…. 6-7 nos
  • Mixed vegetables …… 2 cups (Carrots, green peas, potato, yellow bell pepper)
  • Onions chopped ….. 1/2 nos
  • Red Chilli powder……1/2 tspn
  • Turmeric powder…….1/2 tspn
  • Coriander powder…….1 tspn
  • Garam masala powder…..1 tspn
  • Black pepper powder……….1/2 tspn
  • Cilantro chopped…….. 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Water
  • Oil

Instructions

  1. Soak the bread slices in a cup of water for 10 minutes
  2. Cook the potatoes and carrots.
  3. Mash them well with a potato masher.
  4. Now heat 1 tbspn oil in a pan.
  5. Add the chopped onions and fry till golden brown.
  6. Now add the mashed potato and carrots. Add the green peas and fry for some time.
  7. Add the chilli, turmeric, coriander and garam masala powder.
  8. Fry for some more time.
  9. Add salt and mix well.
  10. Add the cilantro.
  11. Turn off the heat.
  12. Keep it aside and let it cool.
  13. Now take the soaked bread. Squeeze out excess water.
  14. Add some salt and mash it well with hands.
  15. Add the cooked vegetable mixture to the mashed bread and mix well.
  16. Preheat oven to 450 F.
  17. Make small balls of the mixture. Flatten them slightly like a pattice.
  18. Take a baking tray and brush it with a little oil.
  19. Arrange the balls in the baking tray.
  20. keep it in the oven for 20 mins.
  21. Flip them after 20 mins and keep again for around 10 mins.

Alternative Method

  1. You can also fry them in oil.
  2. Take a frying pan.
  3. Heat oil. Put the wadas one by one (wet hands with water so that the mixture do not stick to the hands)
  4. Fry for 10 mins.

Take out the wadas and serve hot with tomato ketchup.
